A Star Couriously Singing
Kerry NietzPaperback 2009-10-01
I, Robot meets Muhammad in space
Sandfly, a debugger, is a slave to a relatively benign lord in a future earth under sharia law - all other faiths but Islam have been banned and the word of the great Imam is law. Sandfly is happy just debugging his master's robots; but called into Earth orbit he must discover why the only robot onboard the maiden voyage of the masters' new interstellar spacecraft went mad and tore itself limb from limb, and does it pose any risk to humans?
Reviewing files of the robot's last moments he hears something strange as they orbit Betelgeuse - singing. Is it just solar winds interfering with the robot's wiring? As Sandfly pieces together the clues, the masters spread a trap before his feet. Everyone is racing to the same conclusion, but only one side welcomes what that singing represents.
