In "The Path of Peace," Nouwen shares how his experience living with and ministering to Adam, a handicapped person at L'Arche, has taught him that true peace is rooted more in being (present to each other) than doing, more in the heart than in the mind, and calls forth community in a fellowship of the weak. Very insightfully, Nouwen also highlights that true peace can be found in our weaknesses and vulnerability. Most importantly, true peace is rooted in the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ! In "The Path of Waiting," Nouwen looks at the spirituality of waiting which comprises two aspects: the waiting for God - which is characterized by waiting with a sense of promise, waiting actively and patiently, and with open-endedness - and the waiting of God for His children to come to Him. Finally, in "The Path of Living and Dying," Nouwen helps the reader to embrace death and to prepare for it. These essays are excellent and contain much food for thought.
