I'm reading the book you wrote, and I love it.

What a wonderful job you did to explore and discover and write this story.

Some of the history is heart breaking, but it's amazing to see how God was still in control and preserved them thru it all.

I have read it within 4 days from cover to cover. What an amazing work you have done, gathering all this information, and writing it up in a novel. My utmost respect for the end result! I even learned new things about the Netherlands, and was shocked by some of the things that happened here only 100 years ago...

I forgot to say your book is really explaining lots to me. My husband talked about things in Holland during the war what he knew. Now I can get an idea how terrible it was. I'm enjoying it tremendously and learning how blessed we are and don't even know it.

I have just this evening finished reading 'My Father's Journey'. I must thank you for this wonderful gift to our community. I felt very connected to what was happening, from beginning to end.

I finished reading it a few weeks ago! Really enjoyed the book! I think you did a great job, especially with the amount of detailed information, you were still able to make the book flow really well!

I just finished reading your book "My Father's Journey". You receive my highest commendation! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Not only because it is our family's story - but because it depicts the truthful, but harsh realities of life in those times. I love the way you wove the history of that time in the book and how the faith of our parents and many others shone through.

Congratulations on a special book.

Your book awoke memories in my mind of their very difficult past in World War two and immediately after the war in the hunger years and the desperate lack of housing and employment. My parents emigrated to Canada in 1953 and experienced the challenges of the language transition and trying to find employment for their growing family just as did your family in Australia. Your book relates the amazing faithfulness of our covenant keeping God in preserving the generations of His people through many hardships over the years.

One of my girlfriends here read your book and she was absolutely flabbergasted, she loved the book and finished it within a week. She reckons most migrant people from Holland in Canada and America would love to read this book.

A fortnight ago I bought your book, and it gave me many hours of happy and relaxed reading, also exciting reading!!

I learned a lot more about your dad, It was so interestingly written. I went with him (in my mind) when he had to flee and hide in the Bieschbos. The Germans had difficulty even going into the Bieschbos, scared that the "underground", hiding there, would pick them off with their guns, even before they could discover them amongst the reeds.

What a time of heartfelt suffering, both for your Mum and Dad. Your Dad suffered a lot, it is just about "indescribable". I just wanted you to know 'How much I loved your book'.

I got to the end of the book & wanted it to keep going. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Last night I finished reading your book. I enjoyed it so much and had trouble putting it down. There is so much to learn from the book. There's the family history, the broader history and the beautiful faith which is so well described. I found it very moving and encouraging.

I'm enjoying reading and appreciate your book! (I love the front photo on the front cover of the book - it speaks words!) Certainly, a horrific and sad family story that we have never known!

Wow, and a huge task with all the research you have done!

A very interesting and gripping read.

What a journey! Comparing these stories to today we definitely have it easy! Many good lessons to be learned here.

Congratulations with the publication of your book "My Father's Journey". I'm very thankful that you are willing to share what is a personal and family journey with a wider audience, giving us all an insight into the Pre-war, Nazi occupation and Immigration to Australia era. Your book makes "dry" history alive; real people, real challenges and a testimony of faith in our gracious God whose grace and goodness is ever present. Thank you very much.

Sitting here at 12.50 a.m. and ... FINISHED! What a journey, and what a read. A fabulous book. You have really released a masterpiece here, one for the ages.

Publisher Description

This book spans the best part of the 20th Century laying out the story of the generation that left the Netherlands for Australia following the traumatic second world war, to emigrate to new lands filled with hope and the promise of freedom. The story begins at the beginning of the 1900's in a tiny brick house in a small village overlooked by the imposing church in central Netherlands. Here a shocking event occurred that ripped one family apart and is tragic in its ramifications for family members. This biographical account gives unique insight into how people and complicated circumstances were dealt with in a different, and somehow harder era.Yet out of this, and despite the dangers in the Second World War, the story that unfolds remains optimistic and filled with faith-inspired hope.
