A great, good looking bible

I love this Bible. I say that as someone who owns about 7 bibles and have had more. Bidder's NIV bibles are great, particularly because of their attractive and simple layout, good looking and easy to read fonts, and most of all, their BRITISH SPELLING. reat for all those things I mentioned, but it also has a great feel, a nice sturdy design (hardcover) that actually looks good without the jacket (it's canvas textured navy blue) and great study resources. It has helpful footnotes on language and alternative translations, very relevant cross references and excellent introductions to each book of the bible. The study info is great, simple (not overwhelming or tedious) and there are plenty of maps to help you get a visual orientation of what's going on.\r\n\r\nUltimately, it's a great and helpful bible with excellent study resources that are actually NOT intrusive or excessive. It's a bible that you can study, or one you can just read comfortably without even coming across any study information being shoved in your face.\r\n\r\nI highly recommend this Bible. Read Less

Short and pithy study Bible

This study Bible has short introductions and articles. It is not intended to answer all your questions about individual passages or verses.\r\nBut it provides a good overview of the whole Bible and of each book.\r\nThe people who wrote the articles are associated with the book's publisher, The Proclamation Trust, and it would seem to have more Aus...Read More

It also includes articles by regular visitors to Australia, such as Vaughan Roberts, Gerald Bray and William Taylor.\r\nThe Aussie contributors are John Woodhouse, Mark Thompson, Jane Tooher, Andrew Shead, Brian Rosner, David Peterson, Gavin Perkins, Peter O'Brien, and Peter Bolt.\r\nI have read the whole of the "new NIV" which is mostly reliable. It is written in the language most people speak. Occasionally, it may be too enthusiastic in its use of "the singular they". The language of the 1984 NIV would sound strange to the average Australian, which is one reason the translation has been updated.\r\nI have not read all the articles yet, but am enthusiastic about the authors, and those I have read.\r\nWarmly recommended.
