Necklaces

A cross necklace is one of the simplest ways to carry your faith with you every day. Most of our Christian necklaces are cross necklaces, in sterling silver, gold plated, rose gold plated and stainless steel, alongside dove, heart, dog tag and Scripture designs.

For men, stainless steel cross necklaces and dog tags are tough, tarnish-resistant and made for everyday wear. For women, you'll find delicate crosses, open hearts and charm necklaces, many on 40 to 45cm chains that sit at or just below the collarbone.

A cross necklace also makes a meaningful gift for a birthday, Confirmation or other milestone of faith. Explore more Christian jewellery, including bracelets and earrings.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between sterling silver, plated and stainless steel?
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. It's the most traditional choice and lasts for years with care. Gold plated and silver plated jewellery has a thin layer of precious metal over a base metal like brass or copper, so it costs less, but the plating can wear over time. Stainless steel is the toughest option, and it won't tarnish or fade.
What chain length should I choose for a cross necklace?
40cm: sits at the base of the neck.
45cm: the most popular length for women. It falls at or just below the collarbone.
50 to 55cm: sits lower on the chest and suits larger pendants.
60cm or longer: the usual choice for men's cross necklaces and dog tags.
Will my necklace tarnish?
Sterling silver naturally darkens over time, but a polishing cloth brings it back. Plated jewellery lasts longest if you take it off before showering or swimming, and put it on after perfume and moisturiser. Stainless steel doesn't tarnish.
What's the difference between a cross and a crucifix?
A cross is the plain symbol of the cross. A crucifix shows the figure of Jesus on the cross. Plain crosses are worn across all Christian traditions. Crucifixes are especially associated with Catholic and Orthodox devotion and focus on Christ's sacrifice.
What's a good cross necklace for men?
Look for stainless steel, which handles daily wear without tarnishing. A chain of 55cm or longer suits most men. Bolder pendants and dog tags engraved with a Bible verse are popular choices.
