Koorong grown to become a beloved name in Christian households across Australia. It all began in 1978 when Koorong opened its doors in a humble garage on Koorong Street in Marsfield, Sydney. Since then, we have been on an incredible journey, touching the lives of countless individuals with our commitment to providing quality Christian resources.
Like many place names throughout Australia, 'Koorong' is rooted in the Indigenous language. Specifically, for the Kulin Nation clans in Victoria, 'Koorong' is derived from the Woiwurrung word meaning 'canoe'. Additionally, it is believed to encompass the essence of a waterhole or oasis. We find great joy in embodying an oasis for our cherished customers, providing a place of refreshment and nourishment amidst life's journey.
Koorong aims to be a community bookstore for all Christians and seekers. With Australia's largest selection of Bibles and Christian resources, our range spans denominations, languages, and cultures. Koorong is not affiliated with any particular denomination.
The Gospel unites our staff and yet, we are diverse in our experiences, backgrounds, age, and denominations.
Under the leadership of Excelsia University College, Koorong is positioned to continue to flourish as a space where Christians can discover rich resources, build their faith, and stay connected to a broader spiritual conversation. Excelsia brings with it not only a depth of theological and educational expertise but also a strong commitment to Christ-centred values and community impact—values that align perfectly with our own.
We honour Jesus in all we do. He is the heart of our mission and we seek to bring him glory.
We go beyond transactions. We approach one another and our customers with care, compassion, and a heart to serve.
We come together to work, collaborate, and celebrate, bearing good fruit through unity and shared purpose.
We strive to do what’s right, speak with honesty, and act with humility in all circumstances, honouring God in our words and actions.
Koorong is proudly owned by Excelsia University College(EUC), a faith-aligned institution committed to Kingdom work and strengthening Koorong’s role as Australia’s leading Christian retailer.
After a period of challenge, Koorong is best positioned to thrive within EUC, which brings the necessary expertise, financial support and vision to ensure its long-term success.
Koorong remains dedicated to serving the Christian community with the same commitment to faith, quality, and service that has defined us for over 40 years.
While we will no longer contribute financially to the mission work of BSA, we remain in Kingdom partnership and continue to share a mutual commitment to serving the Christian community. BSA will continue to be a valued partner for Koorong.
Under EUC’s leadership, Koorong is entering an exciting new chapter. We are committed to expanding our reach, strengthening our role in the Australian Christian landscape, and continuing to serve churches and individual Christians with excellence.
