John Lennox is an Oxford mathematician, philosopher of science, Christian apologist and author known for his thoughtful engagement with questions of faith, reason, science and culture. He is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, a Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science, and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College.
Born in Northern Ireland in 1943, Lennox studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he completed advanced degrees in mathematics, including his PhD. He later worked at the University of Wales in Cardiff and has lectured widely across Europe, North America and Australasia on mathematics, philosophy of science and the intellectual defence of Christianity.
Lennox is widely known for his public debates with prominent atheist thinkers, including Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and Peter Singer. His books explore the relationship between science, philosophy and theology, including God’s Undertaker, God and Stephen Hawking, Gunning for God and Seven Days that Divide the World.
Alongside his apologetic work, Lennox has published extensively in mathematics. He is married to Sally and has three children and five grandchildren.
