An ambitious tyrant threatens genocide against the Jews in ancient Persia, so an inexperienced beautiful young queen must take a stand for her people.

When Xerxes, king of Persia, issues a call for beautiful young women, Hadassah, a Jewish orphan living in Susa, is forcibly taken to the palace of the pagan ruler. After months of preparation, the girl known to the Persians as Esther wins the king's heart and a queen's crown. But because her situation is uncertain, she keeps her ethnic identity a secret until she learns that an evil and ambitious man has won the king's permission to exterminate all Jews--young and old, powerful and helpless. Purposely violating an ancient Persian law, she risks her life in order to save her people...and bind her husband's heart.

Esther marks bestselling author Angela Hunt's return to biblical fiction. In each novel she explores an example of a Hebrew Old Testament *tob* woman: a woman whose physical beauty influences those around her--and can change the course of history.

    this was intense. . .

It was a really good book and I loved the story and how it related to the story in the bible. As a teenager, I do feel that certain scenes in the book are a bit scary and dark, but overall it was great and I am so excited to read some of Angela Hunt's other books!\\nThe quality of the book was really good. I liked the font and text size, it was easy to read and didn't strain my eyes hehe. \\nI got really hooked into this story and I think that it is a book that is worth buying to keep in your shelf!

    Loved it

Another great book From Angela Hunt. Her stories always transport me to that era and this one was no exception. The characters are developed so well that you feel like you know them. \\nShe gets you to really think about the people in the bible and remember that they were real people with hopes and dreams of their own, with failings too.

I came across this book and thought I'd give it a go. I will be sure to hunt down the others in the series! Angela Hunt uses the bible book of Esther very closely but also weaves in information from historical chronologies that were taken in the royal court by the scribes of that era. I was really impressed with this novel.

    Esther retelling

I enjoyed this book because the story stayed close to the biblical facts so it was not confusing. The story was told from the view of Esther and one of the kings Eunuchs. I found it very interesting, a bit sad, very realistic and thrilling all throughout the book. It's about an ordinary, Jewish girl called Hadassah who gets captured and brought to the palace on the way to Jerusalem. She finds herself trapped in the palace doomed to be used by the king then cast to the concubines to be forgotten forever but things don't happen the way she thought it would.
