Many consider Evangeline Hamilton cursed. Orphaned at a young age and possessing a pair of mismatched eyes--one bright blue, the other dark brown--Eva has fought to find her way in a world that constantly rejects her. Yet the support of even one person can help overcome the world's judgments, and Eva has two--Seth and Zach, two former orphans she now counts as brothers.

Seeking justice against the man who stole his birthright and destroyed his family, Logan Fowler arrives in 1880s Pecan Gap, Texas, to confront Zach Hamilton, the hardened criminal responsible for his father's death. Only instead of finding a solitary ruthless gambler, he discovers a man not much older than himself with an unusual family. When Zach's sister, Evangeline, insists on dousing Logan with sunshine every time their paths cross, Logan finds his quest completely derailed. Who is truly responsible for his lost legacy, and will restoring the past satisfy if it means forfeiting a future with Evangeline?

    so much fun!

I think this is one of my favourites from Karen Witemeyer: it is such a sweet story with such fun characters! While I would class this as 'light reading', the faith theme and the personal challenges the characters face are thought-provoking and inspiring. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

    Hard to Put Down

Read this in two days, I couldn't put it down for long. Gripped me right from the beginning, such an enchanting story. I fell in love with the characters, each and every one. The story had so much substance to it though, it wasn't just a cutesy romance with any old story thrown in as a backdrop to the romance. Highly recommend this one. Can't wait to read book two. I want to keep revisiting this family.

Another great novel by Karen Witemeyer!

I really enjoyed the start of this new series which focuses on Eva and Logan. The novel was engaging and it had surprising depth. The storyline was good, and I found the premise of Eva's condition fascinating. Her witty interactions with Logan had me laughing aloud and I can't wait to read Zach's story!

    Sooo good!!

This book was so much fun! The prologue was a little 'tear your heart apart' (though totally needed) but I was laughing the whole way through at the witty banter between the two main characters and the patchwork siblings. But alongside the laughter, there was such a powerfully, beautifully written, deep story of love, hope, grief, vengeance and leaving room for God to be God. Amazing story and can't wait to read the next one!

    Fun Christian Western Romance

Evangeline, Zach, and Seth Hamilton are an unlikely family. In fact, they aren't a blood family. They created themselves from the ruins of a long-ago orphan train. Now the family farm in the small town of Pecan Gap, Texas. They've built a life for themselves. \\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\nEvangeline is a remarkable character. She has different coloured eyes-one brown, one bright blue-and has been ostracised by the townspeople. And she has a pet pig. She's adventurous and brave and caring, and has somehow managed to develop a strong Christian faith. \\r\\n\\r\\nLogan is the first person who hasn't commented on Evie's eyes, and that makes him special. He's also a great character, a man with a goal who will stop at nothing to achieve that goal. But is it the right goal? Evie doesn't think so. \\r\\n\\r\\nLogan is clearly the hero, but Zach and Seth are noble characters as well. Zach has sacrificed his own dreams to raise and support Evie and Seth. Seth has his own health issues which make life difficult. But they're a great team. \\r\\n\\r\\nI think I've read all Karen Witemeyer's novels. I love her writing-her characters, her humour, and the way she seamlessly weaves in the Christian faith. Recommended for all lovers of Christian historical romance, especially westerns. \\r\\n\\r\\nThanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.
