The English Standard Version (ESV), first published in 2001, is a revision of the 1971 Revised Standard Version (RSV). Guided by a philosophy of “essentially literal” translation, the ESV seeks to capture the precise wording of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts while maintaining clear, readable English. This formal equivalence approach makes it especially valued by pastors, scholars, and readers who desire accuracy alongside literary quality. The ESV has gained wide acceptance across denominations and is frequently used in study, preaching, and public worship. Known for its balance of clarity and depth, it preserves the beauty of traditional English Bible language while offering precision for contemporary readers. With numerous editions including study, devotional, and journaling formats, the ESV equips believers at every stage of their spiritual journey. It is a reliable, enduring translation for serious study and daily devotion alike.
