J. I. Packer (1926–2020) was an influential Anglican theologian, author, teacher, and evangelical leader whose writings helped generations of Christians understand the character of God and the foundations of Christian faith. He taught theology at Regent College in Vancouver and wrote widely on doctrine, discipleship, holiness, evangelism, and spiritual growth. His best-known book, Knowing God, has become a modern Christian classic, while works such as Concise Theology and Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God continue to be widely read. Packer also served as general editor of the English Standard Version Bible and theological editor of the ESV Study Bible.
