What does Koorong mean?

Koorong has become a beloved name in Christian households for over four decades. It all began in 1978 when Koorong opened its doors in a humble garage on Koorong Street in Marsfield, Sydney. Since then, we have been on an incredible journey, touching the lives of countless individuals with our commitment to providing quality Christian resources.

Like many place names throughout Australia, 'Koorong' is rooted in the Indigenous language. Specifically, for the Kulin Nation clans in Victoria, 'Koorong' is derived from the Woiwurrung word meaning 'canoe'. Additionally, it is believed to encompass the essence of a waterhole or oasis. We find great joy in embodying an oasis for our cherished customers, providing a place of refreshment and nourishment amidst life's journey.
