Not the story I expected but an interesting read

I had a picture in my head about this character from other books she'd appeared in--a sort of reformed street rat type. This story wasn't what I'd imagined, and that's probably why it took me a little bit to get into it. I did enjoy the story though. It's interesting. Talks about the French Revolution-not where I expected this story to go. After a rough start, I liked the ending. It might work better as a standalone, then you can met her without any preconceived ideas about the heroine. I'm not sure if that holds true for the Haven Manor series in which this book appears third. Jess was a little different in the first two books of Haven Manor then what I remembered of her from the Hawthorne House series. I am however glad Kristi wrote this story because I wanted to know more about Jess. She was more complex with fairy-tale elements than I expected.

    Third in the series

Haven Manor is a three book series. I am glad I kept reading as I really like the first book, the second book did not grab me but it finished well with this book. It drew me in and kept my attention right to the end. I really like Kristi Ann Hunter as an author and this is a great series for an easy read.

    Jess' story

I'd been hoping for a book that covered Jess' story since first meeting her in A Noble Masquerade. She is funny, dangerous and intensely private. Reading her history and watching her walls come down as she learns to trust God and those around her was a beautiful journey.

    Wow!

Oh wow. This book had me captivated from the first line. Having met Jess in previous books, I was really intrigued to finally find out what her story was - but so didn't see this coming. Intrigue yes, given Jess has worked as a spy, but royalty? Nope. Total surprise. That said, it was really fascinating to see how all the pieces of her life have come together and the journey it's taken her on. Also, the romance was hilarious. Those two are so determined to hate and outdo each other. So much fun! Highly recommend.
