Unknown to many, increasing numbers of conservative evangelicals are denying basic tenets of classical Christian teaching about God, with departures occurring even among those of the Calvinistic persuasion. James E. Dolezal's All That Is in God provides an exposition of the historic Christian position while engaging with these contemporary deviations. His convincing critique of the newer position he styles "theistic mutualism" is philosophically robust, systematically nuanced, and biblically based. It demonstrates the need to maintain the traditional viewpoint, particularly on divine simplicity, and spotlights the unfortunate implications for other important Christian doctrinessuch as divine eternality and the Trinityif it were to be abandoned. Arguing carefully and cogently that "all that is in God is God Himself," the work is sure to stimulate debate on the issue in years to come.

    Essential Reading

With the permeating intrusion of theological liberalism, we are now seeing classical theism being rejected by even the most modern """"conservative"""" theologians, which is extremely concerning. Hence, it was refreshing to see and read Dolezal's book on classical theism. The Church today needs to return to its historical and orthodox teachings, which should begin with classical theism. Dolezal's book is heavy but a simple introduction to classical theism. It is not a book to be read once, but a book that needs to be read more than once. I highly commend the reading of Dolezal's book to every Christian, whether the clergy or lay.

    Difficult but important

Though the main idea of this book was about simplicity, it was anything but simple. This was a really difficult read for me. I had to read every sentence 2 or 3 times at least. \\nThat may just be because I'm not that well versed in theology proper. \\nHowever, it is clear this work interacts well with contemporary studies and thoughts. I believe it presents opposing views to classical theism fairly and it does it first allowing the reader to think and consider it before presenting the viewpoint from classical theism. \\nBut I'm glad I made it through and hopefully in the future when I read it again or reference back to it, I will be able to parse and understand the different arguments and discussion on this topic.
