    The Christian Sabbath

Calvin's view of the sabbath has been a hotly debated topic in reformed circles. There is the so called continental sabbath and the puritan sabbath and everyone wants to claim Calvin for their own purposes. In this book Gaffin looks at how the confessions, early reformers understood the 4th commandment and how it is to be understood in the new covenant era. Gaffin zeros in on Calvin's corpus of writing from his Institutes, to his commentaries, then sermons and tracts to give us a comprehensive analysis of his thought - somewhat repeatative. He sees summary of the view in the Westminster Confession as the correct one. But his last chapter where he gives his exegetical analysis is worth the book, I have read this chapter numerous times and my head still spins. He applies the biblical redemptive-historical insights that he gained from Vos.
