**The war is over, but at Fairhaven Plantation, Charlotte's struggle has just begun.**

Charlotte Fraser returns to her late father's once-flourishing rice plantation on the Waccamaw River, determined to continue his tradition of growing the special kind of rice known as Carolina Gold. But Fairhaven Plantation is in ruins, the bondsmen are free, and money is scarce.

To make ends meet, Charlotte reluctantly accepts a position as tutor to the young daughters of Nicholas Betancourt, heir to the neighboring Willowood Plantation. Then Nick's quest to prove his ownership of Fairhaven sends Charlotte on a dangerous journey that uncovers a family mystery . . . and threatens all that she holds dear.

Inspired by historical events, *Carolina Gold* weaves together mystery, romance, and rich historical detail, bringing to life the story of one young woman's struggle to restore her ruined world.

    Sweet story

This was a nice easy read which will make me seek out more of Dorothy Love's work. A very chaste romance story with a nice historical context.

    Carolina Gold

Civil War in America wrought a heavy cost to both the North and the South. Set in South Carolina Low country, post war, Carolina Gold explores the challenges faced by plantation owners now destitute. Charlotte Fraser has enormous determination and will power to rebuild her families plantation and replant the famous Carolina Gold rice fields. Unfortunately she needs more than this to succeed. Money is scarce and honest labour even harder to find. Charlotte discovers help in the most surprising of places and struggles desperately to hold onto her legacy, even though her legal ownership of the land is called into question. \\r\\nI found the first half of this story interesting, and insightful as to life in the South after the Civil War. However, the story line, for me, became a little repetitive. Living life on the island to avoid the heat of the rice fields seemed incongruent with the aim of the heroine. In the publishing of the book, all letters and diary entries were printed in a small cursive font that was very difficult to read and this took away from the enjoyment of the story. Personally I didn't enjoy this novel as much as I have other books by Dorothy Love.
