It's amazing how relevant this book is in our time, but in a way that is also sad. The battle against liberalism is still very much alive in the church. Machen argues throughout that liberalism is not a branch of Christianity but from a different root entirely and hence has no place in the Christian church or Christian discussion. \\n\\nThe climax of the book is definitely the last chapter on the church. If one is short for time and wants to hear Machen's advice and discernment on the situation of liberalism, read the last chapter. He values and yearns that truth and honesty be upheld and gives practical ways for the Christian church to do so and proceed in a climate of liberalism. We must not be blind to the attack from within but do all we can to eradicate it and protect ourselves from it.

Important reading
This is an excellent work exposing Liberalism in the visible Church for what it is - NOT Christian! \\r\\nThe author take you through the foundational subjects of God, Man, The Bible, Christ, Salvation, The Church, and shows the importance of the Biblical doctrines and how the liberal teachers have seriously compromised them. Unlike some that expose the errors of others, here we have also a rich treatment of the true doctrines as well which were food for the soul. \\r\\nFinally, you are challenged- will you (either Preacher or lay person), stand up and defend the faith, or just """"go with the flow"""" because it's easier not to upset anyone?\\r\\n

Classic Work
This is one of Machen's classic works. This book was written in the early 1920's as Machen sought to confront the rising tide of liberalism within the church. Machen saw Liberalism more sinister than a mere branching of Orthodoxy, Machen saw Liberalism as a whole new religion. \\r\\n\\r\\nThroughout the book Machen sees to defend the orthodox view by contrasting it with the liberal view of Christianity. Broken into six main headings; Doctrine, God and man, The bible, Christ, Salvation and the church. \\r\\n\\r\\nI found the book informative especially with the current age of liberal Christianity dominating the evangelical landscape. Machen words are appropriate for us today as I am sure they were for his own time. A valuable resource for the pastor of today, and any Christian concerned for where the church is heading.

Christian liberalism is exposed for what it really is: non-Christian
If anyone believes that liberal Christianity is Christian, then this is the book to set you straight. Machen shows that on core doctrines the liberal is feeding from a different root than that of historic Christianity. To allow liberals to be members and pastors of the churches is inviting wolves to support and teach the sheep. If we wish to remain faithful to our Lord, we cannot allow paganism to infect the church and would do well to heed Machen's teaching and counsel.
