I thoroughly enjoyed this civil war story, even more so when I got to the author's notes and discovered that it was based on real places, events and people, and that there was a whole series set in Carnton, with some of the same characters. I'll certainly be looking out for those, as Tamera Alexander made the characters so real, and I enjoyed watching them grow to overcome their problems. Jake seemed to think that the camaraderie of war was something only the men fighting it could experience and benefit from. Until he saw Lettie and the women of the Women's Relief Society pulling together, supporting one another thorough terrible grief, suffering, poverty and loss. But the story is more than a tribute to these courageous women - it's a gentle love story, a story of hope, and a story of faith. I'd recommend it to all lovers of historical romance. \\n
