Contending that preachers have become silent on a major doctrinal theme of the Christian faith--the meaning of the crucifixion and the cross as a theological symbol--Sally A. Brown describes the nature and causes of this phenomenon and provides a strategy for reclaiming "cross talk" in the pulpit. Brown proposes a metaphorical and pastoral model for preaching about the cross. Preachers can reclaim preaching on the cross, she urges, by joining New Testament metaphors to pastoral situations rather than adapting atonement theories for the pulpit. She offers specific examples in sermons designed for particular homiletical occasions.

    Practical and solid

This is a very down to earth book about properly understanding the big picture or story of God's word, the Bible, and how to apply that to the everyday of life. Some very helpful thoughts and concrete examples, this is well worth a read.

    Filling a huge need

For a long-time I felt like I was growing in my understanding of the Scriptures and love for Jesus, but there was a disconnection between what God was doing in me and how I was able to help others with the truths God was teaching me. The guys who work with the Christian Counselling and Education Foundation have changed all this for me. And this is one of their key books - it gives a sound method of reading the Bible as well as understanding people. And it gives clear, practical guidance on how to minister God's transforming truths to others. Mike Emlet masterfully shows how we can do this from Genesis to Revelation, including tricky bits to apply like 1 Chronicles 1-9. A brilliant book that offers lifelong rewards if followed
