Building on his previous work, Engaging with God: A Biblical Theology of Worship, D G Peterson seeks to apply his thinking on worship to the practical side of ministry and worship in the church. Carefully defining worship in a way that is faithful to the unfolding revelation of God's Word, Peterson then applies this to areas such as patterns for ministry, the preaching of the Word, congregational prayer, praise, singing, baptism and the Lord's Supper. Peterson seeks to correct common misunderstandings, such as the thought that worship is restricted to congregational singing of praises, presenting a more comprehensive view of worship as a life that is lived to the glory of God. The chapters on baptism and the Lord's Supper are thought provoking, particularly as Peterson argues that the modern church has misunderstood and has changed the Lord's Supper from what it was originally intended to be as presented in the NT. For anyone who plans and coordinates church services, or those seeking some more practical teaching on worship, this easy to read book will prove very helpful. Highly recommended.
