This new, highly affordable paperback edition includes Maier's bestselling translation, historical commentary on each book of *The Church History*, and ten maps and illustrations. Often called the "Father of Church History," Eusebius recorded crucial information about the lives of Jesus' disciples, the development of the New Testament, Roman politics, and the persecution of early Christians. Next to Josephus, Eusebius is the most widely-consulted reference work on the early church. Much of our knowledge of the first three centuries of Christianity - the terrible persecutions, the courageous martyrs, and the theological controversies - come from the writings of this fourth century historian. This sparkling new translation includes more than 150 color photographs, maps, and charts.

A New Translation of Eusebius' The Church History

My interest in the Church Fathers was aroused by my reading of Catholic books in recent years. The Catholic Church's claim that their theology and liturgy are rooted not only in the New Testament but also in the teachings and writings of the Church Fathers motivated me to return to the """"source. """" When one reads the Church Fathers carefully, one cannot but find that they were in many ways very """"Catholic. """" This new translation of Eusebius's Church History by Paul L. Maier accompanied by his commentary on the text proves very helpful to the student of early Church History. If more Christians would to go back to the Church Fathers and understand what they taught and stood for, much good will be done for the cause of Christian unity between Catholics and Protestants. Highly recommended!
