The Wholesome Doctrine of the Gospel familiarizes readers with one of England's most influential theologians, William Perkins. In the opening biographical sketch, Andrew S. Ballitch and J. Enjoyable Read

After a biographical section of William Perkins life and piety, this book consists of 32 short chapters covering grounds of doctrine to be believed, and, grounds of doctrine to be practiced. These are short writings taken from Perkin's larger works. \\nAlthough only short, they are not lacking in richness and value for the soul. It whets your appetite for reading William Perkin's works, which are listed at the end of the book. \\n\\n

    Devotional

This series is great because it consists of purely the writings of the subject (with virtually no commentary except for footnotes where needed), in this case: William Perkins. The order that it was laid out made it read like a brief systematic theology. Perkins writing is simple and practical, and you can see many of his phrases and explanations make its way into the Westminster Confession of Faith.
