He was born to rule the people of God. . . but Yahweh is only a vague, powerless memory in the minds of His people.     Though born the second son of King Ahaz, Hezekiah is not protected from his father's perverted attempts to gain the favour of the idol Molech....

He was born to rule the people of God. . . but Yahweh is only a vague, powerless memory in the minds of His people.

Though born the second son of King Ahaz, Hezekiah is not protected from his father's perverted attempts to gain the favour of the idol Molech. Terrified and powerless at the foot of Molech's altar, Hezekiah encounters for the first time the one true God of his royal ancestry, Yahweh.

But his journey to the Holy One is riddled by influence from an assortment of men: Zechariah, a grandfather of noble standing who has fallen into drunkenness; Uriah, the High Priest whose lust for power forces him to gamble the faith he proclaims; and Shebna, the Egyptian intellectual who guides Hezekiah's instruction.

For the two women who love Hezekiah, the meaning of love - and its sacrificial essence - will direct the course of their lives and help shape the young prince's future.

    Brings King Hezekiah to life.

The first book in the Chronicles of the Kings series really brings the days of young Kings Hezekiah to life. You are drawn immediately into the circumstances of his young life and what his experiences may have been like for him. It's is well written and enjoyable. I found it draws me to my bible. This series is one I would highly recommend for teens and adults.

    Old Testament heroes

This series by Lynn Austin is a great read for the young Christian. The """"Chronicles of the Kings"""" series is a great illustration of the OT and is a very captivating read! A series I simply could not put down and a very thought provoking look inside the stories of old.

    A Must Have

This was my first introduction to Lynn Austin. I am in love with her ability to write a good story based around God's truth! I have since then read almost all of her books. \\r\\n\\r\\nIf you want to gain a better understanding of the Kings in the old testament and their rituals, traditions and life in general this packs it out. Although this is fictional the accounts are written in the bible and you can find reference for them in the book. \\r\\nI found myself picking up my bible and finding out the truth for myself and enjoying reading and learning about it. \\r\\n\\r\\nI have even got my Father-in-law reading the entire series. When he comes to baby-sit he will tuck himself up on the couch and read while the children are sleeping. This is a must-have for anyone. Don't just stop at this book. Get the entire series. You will not regret it!

Made me want to read my bible!

This account of Hezekiah's life spurred me to study a section of the bible that I had never really connected with before. It helped me to put the life of the real Hezekiah into context. There is lots of fiction added to the original bible story but it is done beautifully and with as much accuracy as possible. Lynn Austin does a wonderful job at capturing the emotion and tragedy of child sacrifice and idol worship in bible times. Amazing how applicable the themes are still today.
