Changing leaders in a changing cultureOur culture is constantly changing, as fast as - or faster than - we can adapt to it. In this context Christian leaders have not only to acquire new insights and skills, but also to unlearn what they previously knew. Even our definition of leadership is under review.
In this sequel to the acclaimed ChurchNext, Eddie Gibbs examines how Christian leadership might change in the light of new cultural conditions. He considers recent developments in leadership styles, from hierarchies to networks and compartments to connections, and assesses the dynamics of leadership teams. Having specified the healthy characteristics of Christian leaders, he then explains how they can be identified and nurtured.
This incisive analysis, from an expert in church growth, will serve as a comprehensive resource for current and potential Christian leaders, and those who teach and mentor them.
'This important and well-informed book points to the patterns of leadership that are essential for the future. I particularly value the emphasis on mission-focused churches, on values-based communities of disciples and on new patterns of training. An excellent read' - Bishop Graham Cray, Chairman of the Mission-Shaped Church working party.
'Be prepared for your "comfort zone", whether you are an experienced or emerging leader, to be illuminated, challenged and disturbed. But ignore this book at your peril!' - Steve Brady, Principal, Moorlands College.
Author Eddie Gibbs is Donald A. McGavran Professor of Church Growth at the School of World Mission, Fuller Theological Seminary. He has served as an Anglican minister in England, Latin America and the United States, and is the author of several books, including (with Ian Coffey), ChurchNext (IVP) ***- Publisher.***

A great strength of this book is that it provides leaders with a clear picture of the current postmodern landscape of the church in the west. This book forces leaders of traditional denominations to ask themselves whether certain church practices are helping their people fulfill the Great Commission. \\r\\n\\r\\n\\tWhile this is a fantastic book on contextual leadership issues for today, it reads more as a social and cultural commentary than as a leadership text. I appreciate the cultural insights Eddie Gibbs provides, but feel he has not helped me with the task of leading the people under my care. \\r\\n
