Dr Henry Cloud's book, the Secret Things of God, is an intriguing book. The writer goes deep into matters of the heart. However, he's not abstract in presenting truths but gives real life experiences of how we can achieve the purpose of living meaning fully and growing spiritually. \\r\\nHe's practical and goes into some details of how we can find the gifts God has entrusted us with to fulfill the purpose God has made us. His advice is to set our heart to please God first and express who we are second. He adds that God is sovereign and as we submit to Him and trust Him, we will have peace despite rejection, failure in business, or illness and He will make our life worth living. He exhorts us not to give way to hopelessness but to trust God who has a purpose for us that is very good. From his experience with his little daughter he showed the reader how important it is not to be a non-communicator in our relationship with others. Dr Cloud ends his book on a serious note by bringing us back to where we stand before our sovereign God and good heavenly Father who cares for us. Among the thoughts that strike me are these words: """"Our disease is that we don't want to answer to anybody but ourselves how we live. But there's One greater than us to whom we have to answer. """" They are challenging and humbling. \\r\\nEveryone should hasten to read this book to be delivered from an aimless and hopeless life.
