Young painter Serena Winthrop is in the sights of the notoriously disreputable Henry, Lord Carmichael as a prospective match. Her wariness of his charm has roots in her secret past. When her art brings infamy in London, Henry must choose between the life of an earl and the true love he feels for her.
"Carolyn Miller writes with skill and grace that bring the Regency period to vivid life." --Julianna Deering, author of the Drew Farthering Mysteries
With devastating scars in her past, Serena Winthrop is sure no man can be trusted--especially not a man like the too-smooth Viscount Carmichael. His reputation as a flirt and a gambler is everything she despises. And the young artist makes sure that this disreputable heir to an earldom knows of her deep disapproval whenever they encounter one another.
Henry, Lord Carmichael, is perfectly aware of his charms. He's gambled with plenty of ladies' hearts as easily as he has with their husbands' money. But lately he's wondered if there's more to life--and if his actions might prove unworthy of an admirable wife such as his friends have found.
When Serena's guardian asks his best friend to protect his young ward, Henry promises to be on his best behavior and not to woo her. But the more he learns of her, the more he realizes she might be his best reason for changing his character.
Then the lady's painting leads her to London infamy. Now Henry must choose between the life mapped out for him as the earl apparent and the love of his life. And Serena's secret may mean the end of his titled family line.
This second novel in a new series by internationally popular author Carolyn Miller is full of the rich historical detail and evocative writing her readers enjoy. The witty banter will continue to draw in fans of Jane Austen, Sarah Ladd, and Julie Klassen.

Must Read!
Author Carolyn Miller definitely doesn't shy away from incorporating intriguing characters and real life issues into her beautiful tales of romance and love. Messages of love, forgiveness and redemption are woven through all Her books, with relatable storylines and relationships. This is a great second book in the 'promise of hope' trilogy. Could be read as a stand alone but I love seeing how all the characters from Miller's books are interwoven as you read in order.

Miller's Magic Continues. . .
Carolyn Miller always manages to enchant me, and this is no exaggeration. There is a sincerity in her writing that makes it so endearing. This is a story with many twists and turns, some surprises and yes, the secret. To be honest, it took me a while to actually figure out what exactly the secret was from the many elements of Serena's side of the story, but it is quite interesting going through all the aspects of it. And of course, this is a story of Hope, which is evident in both Serena and Harry's hearts. Plot wise, it is not very complex, I felt. Character development is significant, especially in the case of Harry. It is the story of accepting the other person as they are with all their aspects as well as changing for the sake of becoming worthy of someone. Two contrary aspects, but well blended in the story. \\r\\nOverall, as always, I found Miller's book a delight to read. Her writing has a certain charm, her characters are well rounded and human, period details exceptional and writing engaging with a distinct wit. I admire her way of conveying emotions, of feelings. I have been a fan since I read the first page of The Elusive Miss Ellison, and I believe I always shall remain one.

Great Christian Regency Romance
The title is a little misleading. \\r\\nMiss Serena actually has several secrets. These combine to persuade her that she will never marry. She will especially not marry a man like her father, a gambler who lost their fortune at the tables. So she is not impressed when she meets gambler and womaniser Lord Henry Carmichael. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis is a sweet and slow love story. It's not the romance novel where we meet the hero and heroine and wham bam they're together. Instead, both characters have plenty of time to get to know each other and to change-to mature into people who are able to fall in love and contemplate marriage. \\r\\n\\r\\nMiss Serena is an artist, and her art plays a key part in the novel. I'm no painter, but I loved the painting references-the colours, the techniques, and the little upset at the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. \\r\\n\\r\\nMiss Serena's Secret is Carolyn Miller's fifth novel, and the second in her Regency Brides: A Promise of Hope series. If you've read the others, you'll enjoy catching up with some of the characters from the previous stories. If you haven't, don't worry: this is a standalone novel. \\r\\n\\r\\nRecommended for Regency romance fans. \\r\\n\\r\\nThanks to Kregel Publications and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.

If you don't know Regency romance can hold you captive and at times you are holding your breath as you turn the pages then this book will hold you spellbound as you enter the world of author Carolyn Miller and her Regency Brides A Promise of Hope series. Oh and dare I say that the hero Vicount Carmichael is vying in my heart with Mr Darcy. . . . . . . . but neither come close to Jesus!
