    Helpful but unbalanced

Searching For God Knows What by Donald Miller certainly has good intentions. As Miller states at the end of the book, his intention is to bring into focus the highly relational truth of the gospel. To this end, Miller does an excellent job. However, I struggled with the way Miller emphasised this relational aspect. He did so in a way that seemed to have little regard for Biblical scholarship and made fun of anyone who used rules or catechisms. I believe this was not his intention but it detract from some of his points. Also, his style of story-telling was very engaging initially but it seemed that most of his arguments were based on story-telling and that his conclusions were then drawn from the stories. While it was helpful in raising important issues, in the end, I felt that it detracted from the conclusions that he reach. This book has a lot of very good points to make and will be excellent for some people. For me though, this book was just okay.
