    excellent commentary on SM

I read a number of books about Sermon on the Mount (SM) and this is one of the best. \\r\\n\\r\\nIf you wish to understand the practical messages and applications of SM, there are many excellent books available: Bonhoffer (the Cost of Discipleship), Willard (the Divine Conspiracy), Swindoll (Simple faith). Lloyd-Jones, Kendall and Kent Hughes all provide first class exposition of the text. Both Stott and Carson are among the best in providing good exegesis and exposition of SM. However, if you are looking for a detailed explanation of the original meaning of SM and solid exegesis of the text, this would be my first choice. It is of course not as detailed as the exhaustive commentary of Betz. However, Quarles' commentary is a lot more accessible to readers without a working knowledge of Greek, the writing is clear, succinct and balanced. Highly recommended.
