Impetuous Sophie Knutson defies her father's counsel to postpone marriage, and elopes with her beau Hamre. But life as a fisherman's wife is not all Sophie had dreamed of, and when tragedy strikes, she must choose whether to risk returning to the family she has hurt.

Certain she can't live without Hamre Bjorklund, the impetuous Sophie Knutson rejects her father's request to postpone her marriage until after graduation and convinces Hamre to elope. But life as a fisherman's bride in Seattle is not at all that Sophie had envisioned. Pregnant and lonely while Hamre's out at sea, she hires on at a fish cannery, only to be fired after fainting on the job. When tragedy strikes, heartbroken Sophie can think only of returning home to Blessing. But will her family welcome her after the way she's hurt them by her defiant behavior? And will she ever open her heart to love again?

    a lovely read

I love how it is possible to dip into any book from the 'Blessing's' series, without having to have read them in chronological order. I did not think I would enjoy this one, as Sophie has always seemed so annoyingly bossy and spoilt when she appears in other novels in the series. But I found myself empathizing with her and cheering her on as the plot progressed. Another great read from Lorraine Snelling!

    Adventure beyond Blessing

This is the second book in the """"Daughters of Blessing"""" series, and once again I was impacted by the simplicity of the life described. The residents of Blessing, North Dakota in 1901 certainly worked hard, but they worked side by side with family and neighbours, sharing the load, encouraging one another. Sophie breaks away from all this and comes to truly appreciate the support of family when she faces tragedy alone. We are made to feel part of the family, to share their joys and hardships. I found it very relaxing and refreshing to read of life and faith in the 'good old days. '
