The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most familiar passages in the Bible, but is also one of the most frequently misunderstood. For Martyn Lloyd-Jones, the failure of the church today to appropriate its message is a telling symptom of its superficiality, ineffectiveness and unattractiveness. 'The Doctor', as he was affectionately known, shows the remedy for the church's lamentable weakness in Jesus' lakeside teaching, which he explains and applies memorably, through the Sermon's rainbow of themes - including blessedness, joy, spiritual mourning, salt and light, denying oneself, fasting, anxiety, discernment, self-deception, and the trials and tests of faith. ***Publisher.***
With characteristic insight, Dr D. Martyn Lloyd-jones here offers a detailed and comprehensive exposition of one of the best known but most frequently misunderstood passages of scripture - the Sermon on the Mount/ The Sermon on the Mount, says Lloyd-Jones, is not a code of ethics or morals; it is a description of what Christians are meant to be. With his eye always on both Scripture and life, he explains and applied Christ's teaching for Christians struggling to live like Christ. Originally delivered as sermons, the sixty studies in this devotional classic provide a fine example of clear, consecutive expository preaching from one of the greatest preachers of our time.

This was excellent and exceeded my expectations. \\nEven though it was long and detailed (60 sermons), Lloyd-Jones writing is very accessible and understandable as well as practical. \\nOften after finishing a chapter, I would want to read the next to see what he would say! I assume that was also the feelings of those who heard his preaching on the sermon on the mount. \\nHis explanations were very clear, sharp and illuminating for this """"well-known"""" part of Scripture. \\n\\nHighly recommend to all!

Classic
When you bring together one of the Scripture's most marvellous and powerful texts with an expositor of the quality of Lloyd-Jones you get this masterpiece. In sixty sermons on these three chapters of Matthew's Gospel, this book takes us in depth into a key part of Jesus' teaching. It helped me appreciate afresh how important Jesus' most famous sermon is for all Christians.

A must read for all Christian's
In masterful fashion, Lloyd-Jones, in his typical systematic manner, brings out the essence of Christ's sermon on the mount as primarily a question of righteousness. Christ contrasts this over against the self-righteousness of the Pharisees, correcting their human traditions and false teachings regarding the law. \\n\\nLloyd-Jones shows the law not as something to be ticked off but understood as principles that govern the Christians life and living. He asserts the personal nature of Christ's sermon to the Christian, showing that Christ's teaching is often unconsciously viewed outwardly in a Pharisaical manner by the believer rather than allowing an inward shining of the laws spotlight on our thoughts and motives. Rather than looking to the spirit of the law and the core reason for it, in all situations that we find ourselves in life, we often ignorantly reach to the letter of the law in an attempt to distance ourselves from its actual requirements. We all like coming up smelling like roses but Lloyd-Jones brings us back to the salient reality that as Christians we should love the law of God; that we should not be content to merely reduce its observance to something negative. \\n\\nThis book is a must read for all Christian, particularly those who desires to understand who and what they are in this world. \\n\\nThe book is split into 60 easy to consume sermons, generally of no more than 11 pages each.
