This book has been one of the most influential texts that has me shape the church I pastor into a community who wants to engage with the un-churched world around us. \\r\\n\\r\\nI found this book to be encouraging when dealing with Christians who are lamenting societies shift into post modernity, and the difficulty of engaging post moderns with the Gospel. George Hunter is a breath of fresh air as he sees parallels with today's postmodern world and the neo-barbarian culture the established church said was too far from God to be able to reach with the gospel. The history lesson that George Hunter takes the reader through is core elements and attitudes that enabled the Celtic missional pioneers to reach those the church said was too hard to reach. If you read this book you will be inspired, and better equipped to think outside the square when it comes to mission in your backyard. The core element that runs through the entire book is the concept that 'people belong before they believe' and this is the first paradigm shift our church communities need to embrace as we seek to become more missional, and more effective in fulfilling the great commission.
