Two of today's most popular Christian novelists bring you this sweeping saga of the dramatic events surrounding the birth of Christianity...and the very personal story of Leah, a young Jewess of mixed heritage trapped in a vortex of competing political agendas and private trauma. Caught up in the maelstrom following the death of an obscure rabbi in the Roman backwater of first-century Palestine, Leah finds herself also engulfed in her own turmoil - facing the prospect of an arranged marriage to a Roman soldier, Alban, who seems to care for nothing but his own ambitions. Head of the garrison near Galilee, he has been assigned by Palestine's governor to ferret out the truth behind rumours of a political execution gone awry. Leah's mistress, the governor's wife, secretly commissions Leah also to discover what really has become of this man whose death - and missing body - is causing such furor. At its core, *The Centurion's Wife* is about a test of loyalty between two young people and their irreconcilable heritages, and ultimately between their humanity and the Divine they yearn to encounter.

A wonderful read that transports you back to the days immediately following the crucifixion. I was challenged and encouraged by the book. A great read.

Loved it!
Author Janette Oke Davis Bunn bring to life the immediate aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus and the period up to Pentecost. They do so in a way that will never leave you bored or skipping over regurgitated accounts from the Bible like some biblical fiction tends to do but creatively constructs a narrative that transports you to the doubt, faith and expectation of the time. Alban was my favourite character, an honourable young man who was tender and honest towards his betrothed Leah, the female protagonist. I really appreciated this book for the creative way is was written and also for the way the blooming relationship was portrayed - true to Oke's style of subtle yet lovely courtship. Can;t wait to read the other two books in the series.

Tea with Pilate
There are two things that need to be said about this novel. First of all, it is an agreeable and entertaining light read. If you like historical fiction and want something to relax with on a wet Sunday afternoon, then you will probably enjoy yourself with this story of Leah, a servant in the household of Pontius Pilate, and her unwanted arranged marriage to a Roman centurion (who turns out to be the one whose servant Jesus healed). \\r\\n\\r\\n The second point that has to be made is that the book is filled with some of the most egregious historical errors I have seen in a long time. It's blatantly obvious that neither author knows much about Roman civilisation, so if it is going to bother you that they don't know the difference between an auxiliary and a mercenary, that they think """"coliseum"""" is a synonym for """"amphitheatre"""" and (one that really grated on me) that superiors are addressed as """"sire"""" and the imperial family referred to as the """"royal family"""" when Romans had an almost pathological hang-up about the concept of kingship, perhaps you should give it a swerve. Otherwise, ignore the many mistakes and enjoy the story with a nice cup of tea, a beverage which seems to have found its way to ancient Israel via some mysterious trade route otherwise unknown to history, and which the characters in this novel drink in enormous quantity.
