Such an amazing book! It gives you an in-depth, true-to-history, look into what these women's lives really might have looked like. Often these women's stories are toldread over and over by Christians but without stopping to put oneself in their place; their century, their culture and their lot in life. We basically de-personify them: we cut them down to theological tools; see them through our selfrighteous else; or at best imagine them to be living in our culture, which is far from theirs. . . This book brings them to life, remindes you they're were real women, with real struggles, in a time very hostile to women.
