¥ Can an orthodox Christian, committed to the historic faith of the church and the authority of the Bible, be a universalist? ¥ Is it possible to believe that salvation is found only by grace, through faith in Christ, and yet to maintain that in the end all people will be saved? ¥ Can one believe passionately in mission if one does not think that anyone will be lost forever? ¥ Could universalism be consistent with the teachings of the Bible? Gregory MacDonald argues that the answer is yes to all of these questions. Weaving together philosophical, theological, and biblical considerations, MacDonald seeks to show that being a committed universalist is consistent with the central teachings of the biblical texts and of historic Christian theology. This second edition contains a new preface providing the backstory of the book, two extensive new appendices, a study guide, and a Scripture index.

The most significant book I've ever read (apart from the Bible of course!)

I can honestly say that this is the most significant book I've ever read, apart from the Bible. I was raised in a Christian home and have always attended church - usually the conservative, Evangelical variety. At university I came across Universalism, however I put it in the """"nice idea but not biblical"""" basket. However years later I came across """"The Evangelical Universalist"""". . . \\r\\n\\r\\nThe Chapters:\\r\\n1) A few reasons why anyone would even bother reexamining the mainstream doctrine of Hell. \\r\\n\\r\\n2) What qualifies something as """"biblical"""" and how does anyone harmonize and interpret seemingly contradictory passages? It then looks at some passages that at least appear to be promoting Universalism. \\r\\n\\r\\n3) Starting at Creation and it works it ways through the OT, particularly noting how God uses Israel, in relation to the Nations. \\r\\n\\r\\n4) OT and NT continuity, but shows how Christ succeeded where Adam and Israel had failed\\r\\n\\r\\n5) How the Book of Revelation doesn't rule out Universalism but possibly even supports it\\r\\n\\r\\n6) Divine Wrath, past, present and future, and what did Jesus say about Hell\\r\\n\\r\\n7) Advantages of Christian Universalism and some of the common objections\\r\\n\\r\\nIt's definitely worth reading the 4 new 2nd edition appendices (responses to years of feedback on the 1st edition). \\r\\n\\r\\nI've now read many books on Christian Universalism, but I still think this is the best because of the…
