For centuries the book of Psalms has been read as a random collection of individual poems with no discernible pattern of intentional arrangement. Augustine referred to the organization of the psalms as a mighty mystery. Recent Old Testament studies insist that each psalm is not to be interpreted in view of its position in the overall book or by the psalms that border it. Yet O. Palmer Robertson shows that there is a clear redemptive-historical progression that develops throughout the five books of the psalms. In addition, structural elements such as the placement of acrostic psalms, strategic couplings of a Messianic psalm with a Torah psalm, and the grouping of psalms by topics indicate an intentional structuring. The uncovering of these various elements enables the lover of the psalms to get a grasp on the whole of the Psalter along with a fuller appreciation of each individual psalm.

    Excellent

This was extremely helpful. \\nThe book is simple to read but contains complex and deep thoughts about the structure of the psalms. \\nWhat was most helpful for me was that it explains the presence of repeated material. Robertson also points out some nuances that would be hard to noticed without a detailed analysis and study. This book is rewarding as the reader reaps the fruits of Robertson's study.

    Christ our Praise

A wonderful book which I eagerly waited for. Written by a scholar of highest order having taught in numerous Reformed Theological institutions in America now in Africa for over 50 years. This book is a detailed study of the 150 psalms as a unified book of the Bible made up of the 5 main sections. Anyone who reads this book will get a greater appreciation for the Psalter of Israel, how it is organized, how it fits together, traces out a redemptive historical reading of it. His analysis has helped me to value its contents and has gone a long way for me to sing the psalms more intelligently. Do have a closer look at it!
