Members of Hanger's Horsemen, Mark Wallace and Jonah Brooks arrive in Llano County, Texas, to deliver a steed, never expecting they'd deliver a baby as well. Left with an infant to care for, they head to a nearby foundling home, where Mark encounters the woman he'd nearly married a decade...

Members of Hanger's Horsemen, Mark Wallace and Jonah Brooks arrive in Llano County, Texas, to deliver a steed, never expecting they'd deliver a baby as well. Left with an infant to care for, they head to a nearby foundling home, where Mark encounters the woman he'd nearly married a decade ago.

After failing at love, Katherine Palmer dedicated her life to caring for children, teaming up with Eliza Southerland to start Harmony House. From mixed ancestry, illegitimate, and female, Eliza understands the pain of not fitting society's mold. Yet those are the very attributes that lead her to minister to outcast children. The taciturn Jonah intrigues her with his courage and kindness, but there are secrets behind his eyes--ghosts from wars past and others still being waged.

However, when a handful of urchin children from the area go missing, a pair of Horsemen are exactly what the women need. Working together to find the children, will these two couples find love as well?

    Great sequel!

Another action packed sequel from one of my favourite authors! There isn't a dull moment in this book right from the start, with Mark and Jonah stumbling across a woman in the throws of labour and then having to deliver a baby. It isn't long before the duo unsuspectingly find themselves on another case - so much for retirement! The theme through the whole book is that God has a plan in everything. Mark finds a love he long thought lost in the most unsuspecting of places and Jonah too finds a love he never thought he would have or even deserve after his service in the army. \\nI can't wait to read the third book!

    Worth the wait

I wasn't sure about one book for two Hanger's Horsemen instead of one each, but I wouldn't have it any other way now that I've read it. There were four different points of view that read seamlessly as one story, yet each couple had its own distinct and separate love story. If there is any inequality, it is perhaps a slight preference of telling the story through Mark and Jonah's eyes and a little less through the girls' eyes. Otherwise, the book reads as they lived, as equals. I very much enjoyed watching these brothers of the heart fall in love with sisters of the heart together. \\nEliza's backstory made me uncomfortable, but Karen did an excellent job traversing the emotional upheaval a child feels when the desire to love her parents wars with the hurt they've caused. When she struggles between her duty to honour her parents and her sense of morality that condemns her parents mistakes. A very tricky subject handled with great care. \\nI enjoyed the use of Bible stories dotted here and there as guidance for the characters. \\nNever a dull moment between any of them. I only split the book over two days because I wanted to make it stretch longer after waiting so long to read it. It was worth the wait. My only real complaint is that I've already finished reading the book and now I have to wait for the next one. \\nVery well written and an easy read.

    Well written

This book draws you in from the start. It is the second book in the series but can still be read alone. Karen writes in such a way that your emotions are drawn in, actually making this book a book that I loved and didn't love. The main focus of the story is the searching for, to rescue young boys who have been kidnapped. Although I don't usually read books about endangered children I couldn't put this down once I had begun it. It was good to find out more of the back story of Mark and Jonah, who you meet in book one. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. \\n
