**For young widow Evie Bennett, moving forward will mean deciding what to leave behind ... and what to keep.**

Widowed at the age of twenty-five when her firefighter husband was killed in the line of duty, Evie Bennett has spent the last thirteen years raising their son, Cody, in the close-knit community of Banister Falls. As the women's ministry director of her church, Evie encourages women to boldly pursue God's plan for their future ... while she is content with her memories of the past. But Evie's well-ordered life begins to change when she meets Jack Vale.

As Evie gets drawn into Jack's world-a world that isn't as safe and predictable as the one she's worked so hard to create-he challenges her to open her eyes to the problems in the community ... but will Evie open her heart to love again?

Because even though Jack isn't anything like her late husband, he just might be everything she needs.

    Real life, touching story

Hearts we mend is Evie Bennetts story. We met her in The Dandelion Field, and now her """"nest is empty"""", the things she's hung onto are not what she so strong after all. Fear has held her for too long. \\r\\nJack Vale; the Baseball bat, bikie gang, night watchman; turns up at the Banister Falls church where Evie runs the Woman's ministry and they find that they are working 'together'. But who is Jack Vale. \\r\\nQuickly the story shows us how unstructured Jacks life can be compared to the planned and ordered life Evie has had. \\r\\nJack's family is a mess; Evie has been supported and looked out for. Would their worlds ever 'fit'?\\r\\nWatch the fun and heartache and love intertwine. \\r\\nReally enjoyed this second story by Kathryn Springer. I hope you do too :)\\r\\n

    Recommended Second-Chance Romance

A lot of romance readers are looking for novels about """"older"""" couples. I'm not convinced Evie and Jack count as older-they're both in their mid-thirties, scarcely older than the first-love couples in many novels (especially romantic suspense novels). But Evie is about to become a grandmother, which certainly places her ahead of me in terms of life experience category, if not years. \\r\\n\\r\\nBut Jack and Evie they find they have things in common: their faith, their concern for Lily, Jack's niece, and their attraction for each other. Evie's faithful friends aren't going to make it easy for Jack, and nor is he. \\r\\n\\r\\nI thought The Hearts we Mend was excellent, a great sequel to the challenging and recommended The Dandelion Field. I loved all the characters, especially Lily, and Jack's unorthodox neighbours. And Jack was the perfect hero, the way he brought Evie out of the shell no one even realised she was in. I especially liked the way the Christian themes were shown in the way Jack reached out to his neighbours. Recommended. \\r\\n\\r\\nThanks to Zondervan and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.

    Great!

I always enjoy books that include characters that are not self-absorbed but want to reach out to others. Our fast-paced society seems to be breaking down our sense of community. This story gives a peek at the effects of that and the resolution.
