    Beautiful story

Absolutely loved this story and the way it brought Micah 6:8 to life - to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. Both main characters did this in such different ways, causing tension throughout as they fell in love with each other despite knowing they could never be together. Such an incredibly beautiful story about love, grace, caring for widows and orphans and what it truly means to love GOd above all else. The characters are so strong in their convictions and really challenged me in my own life. Highly recommend it and cannot wait to read it again.

    a fairytale for grown-ups

Melanie Dickerson really brings to life the medieval, fairytale world of the story. While I realise that the story draws on the Robin Hood fables, I felt that Odette's justification for her poaching just didn't quite seem to make sense - she is an intelligent woman of some means and social standing, and could surely find other (legal) means to help the poor. Apart from this, I really enjoyed the novel and look forward to reading more in the series.
