"Be holy as I am holy," says the Lord.   It's the most extravagant--and audacious--invitation ever sent: Or in the words of Jesus: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." But can that really happen? Is holiness an achievable goal for sinful human beings? That's the ultimate focus of this...

It's the most extravagant--and audacious--invitation ever sent: Or in the words of Jesus: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." But can that really happen? Is holiness an achievable goal for sinful human beings? That's the ultimate focus of this thoughtful, thorough, and engaging study of what it means to be holy. Drawing on the Bible and Christian thinkers through the ages, Simon Ponsonby affirms that because of God's gracious love and desire for communion with us, he has done what is possible for us not only to pursue holiness, but to achieve it. While we can never count on attaining moral perfection in this life, we need not settle for less than increasing victory over sin. And as more and more Christians choose to partner with God in the ongoing process of sanctification, we set the stage for revival.

Holiness Defined : Theology and Practical

As Christians, God has called us to be holy -- a calling which I am very much struggle to fulfill. I come across this book few years ago after I saw an ad in Christianity Today magazine. Since I am struggling with the issue of holiness, I found that just every book about holiness is daunting. However, this book has caught my attention: the very first chapter of this book has given me much encouragement, not only to continue the reading till the end, but to find comfort in God's role for me to live a holy life. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe first chapter closed with the explanations on Zechariah 3, where even the high priest Joshua -- the supposedly """"holiest"""" man in God's people -- was found to be wearing a filthy clothes in the presence of God, with the devil accusing him! But instead of accepting devil's accusations, the LORD sent his angel to sanctify Joshua and provide clean garments and turbans for him. \\r\\n\\r\\nOver the rest of the chapters, the authors spoke about God's nature on holiness and end the book with guidelines and encouragement to stay holy. The author quoted many writing from the past theologians, making this book a rich reference and essential guidelines for us to """"be holy as I AM holy"""". \\r\\n\\r\\nVery recommended for all Christians, especially those who desire and chase after God. \\r\\n
