The Unfortunate Adventures of Tom Hillingthwaite

Tom is an evangelist, a servant-hearted, faithful, and totally hapless man. His attempts at bringing people to the Lord are constantly thwarted. We look on as he tries to remain focused and cheerful despite regular abuse and disinterest from those around him and the minimal tolerance of his wife and daughter. Tom's employers, Jesus4All, send him to live in the rough town of Stuton to reach out to the locals. Trying to set up a new life and bring people to the Lord proves difficult: the spiritual ground is infertile, while Tom's own social awkwardness tends to get him off on the wrong foot a lot of the time. His bosses run the mission like a business, demanding backsides on seats in the Kingdom, but Tom appears to push people further away.
