The strength of Puritan character and life lay in prayer and meditation. In this practice the spirit of prayer was regarded as of first importance and the best form of prayer, for living prayer is the characteristic of genuine spirituality. Yet prayer is also vocal and may therefore on occasions be written. Consequently in the Puritan tradition there are many written prayers and meditations which constitute an important corpus of inspiring devotional literature. Too often ex tempore prayer lacks variety, order and definiteness. The reason for this lies partly in a neglect of due preparation. It is here that the care and scriptural thoroughness which others found necessary in their approach to God may be of help. This book has been prepared not to 'supply' prayers but to prompt and encourage the Christian as he treads the path on which others have gone before.

A selection of prayers and meditations in the Puritan tradition, widely valued since publication in 1975. (See also P.2)

    Puritan prayers

This book is wonderful, biblically and theologically rich collection of prayers dating back to the Puritan era. The prayers are mostly from the English speaking world collated under different themes. The prayers are well presented in a poetic form with indentation to easily discern the structure, each prayer starts on a new page and if lengthy flows over to the next. The content is inspirational and edifying to the soul. Highly recommended.

    Help for you Pray

This book is a collection of prayers from various ministers associated with the Puritan movement. These prayers are centred on God and saturated in Scripture. When I have struggled to pray (which is often), praying through one of these prayers reminds me of who God is and what He has done, and helps me to bring my own prayers to God. Since these prayers are categorised based on themes, I can always find one related to my current situation. It is a very helpful and valuable book. \\r\\n\\r\\n

    Inspired to pray

The Valley of Vision gives prayers written by the Puritans for the reader to pray through and meditate on. They are thoroughly God-centred prayers, and a go-to for me when I need direction on what to say or how to pray when feeling like I don't have the words to say. \\r\\n\\r\\nHighly recommended as an aid to your prayer life.
