    Novel and Innovative

One of the first titles I read from a mainline and liberal perspective having rediscovered the reformed faith into which I was born/baptised. Found the essays in this book fascinating especially when I realised what the contributors where trying to do. Mostly conservative reformed believers are too busy trying to digest the plethora and voluminous material that proceeded from the 15th and 16th century writers. This book does something different it takes their ideas and tries to project or trace out a trajectory from these ideas into the future. There are some interesting challenging essays which where thought provoking while others applied liberal and progressive ideas to the reformers - somewhat unconvincingly. Admittedly I was fortunate to pick up the book when it was heavily discounted, otherwise I probably would not have been in a position to purchase it. I believe a second volume is out which for obvious reasons have not been able to purchase. I would recommend it if you are familiar with the reformed tradition - something different.
