***“I’m afraid there’s been a car accident...”***As Hannah Ryan waits for her family to return home from a camping trip, she realizes she has everything going for her—a husband other women admire, two charming teenage daughters, and a loving Christian home. As the sunny afternoon turns into twilight, her uneasiness grows along with the shadows. Then a car pulls into Hannah’s driveway, bringing two police officers...and devastating news that shatters her life forever.
In the days that follow, Hannah struggles with unspeakable feelings of sorrow and rage—feelings that fuse into one chilling purpose for living: revenge against Brian Wesley, the drunk driver who has caused all her pain.
In her fury, Hannah shuts the Lord out of her life. She’s determined not to forgive Wesley or the God who allowed this tragedy to happen. Can two caring people help Hannah rediscover her faith...before bitterness destroys her?

A tragic start to this novel made the first chapters hard to get through. The impending doom made me want to put the book aside all together but I was glad to have stuck through it, and through the whole 3 book series. This was my first Karen Kingsbury novel and I enjoyed it. I have just started my fourth book of hers and am a bit disappointed to find that she seems to use the same phrases and biblical references in all her books. It makes them all a bit same-ish and there is so many other wonderful bible texts that could be tied in. a pity.

Kingsbury at her best
This would be my favourite of all karen Kingsbury book. She is a great author but can have a slight leaning to getting to the 'happily ever after' a bit too quickly. However, this is not the case in this book. It covers in great depth the anger, pain and difficulty in forgiveness involved in the loss of family members due to a drink driver. It covers an 18 month span of a mother and daughter as they deal with the painful loss of their father and sister as well as the guilt and mistakes of the drink driver. Not a really light or an easy read novel but a well written and insightful look at the impact of grief on a families life, faith and relationships.
