On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness (#01 in The Wingfeather Saga Series)

As with all things, the bible teaches us not to just dive in, but proceed with caution. This book was recommended by another christian family with children the same age as mine. While the author may be Christian (i have no idea) and while the book may have Christian themes (i also have no idea), I listened to as much as my heart could take on Audiobook and decided it was not for my family. The writer does well to create a world of intrigue and thrill, so much so that my heart could not handle the rest of the book for sheer fact that I felt anxious for the characters in the story (and I'm a grown woman!). I also felt it was very "dark".

So just a note to check it out before you let your child consume.

This is a brilliant series. The first book does take a little while to get a grasp on the world within, but it is so worth the effort. Each book in this series builds and draws you in. I read these aloud to my kids and then we listened to the audio books (read by the author!) on a long road trip we did as a family. These books are almost never in our home library because we constantly lend them out to friends. Highly recommended!
