Lack of depth and maturity in the worldwide church is a major problem. Very few Christians really know their Bibles well and can apply the Word to their daily lives. Few really live as "salt and light" in a dark world. Most make little impact for the Kingdom or know how to share their faith simply and in such a way that people want to listen. Sadly many are not even aware their Christian lives could be any different and so they live frustrated.
Could it be that we have failed to follow what Jesus commanded? His very last command before he returned to heaven was very simple *"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Spirit and teaching them all I've commanded you. And surely I am with you even to the end of the age."* (Matthew 28:18-20).
A person's last words before they die or leave should be important and Jesus certainly wasn't going to waste the opportunity when his disciples were listening so intently Make disciples ? Jesus knew that if his disciples did that, then all else that might be necessary would follow on. If we get the discipling part right then the church will grow and the church can become wide AND deep, giving life and refreshment instead of only disappointment and frustration.
This book aims to explain what discipleship is and give practical guidelines for discipling others. I feel compelled to write it because few seem to have been discipled themselves and good books on the topic seem surprisingly scarce. I was one of those who had to learn everything by trial and error. This book is the kind that I was looking for but didn't find. I hope this might ensure your way is a little easier. *- Christine Dillon*

I love this book which helps apply discipleship methods to different maturity of disciples, different learning methods, and includes dealing with tough issues. There are reflections, case studies and lots of wisdom for helping others to grow!

Enduringly useful
I first read Christine's book in 2009 when it was first printed and recently had cause to read it again. I was reminded how Christine can write so simply and clearly yet behind it is a wealth of experience and wisdom. I definitely recommend it as a book you will keep going back to!

Biblical and practical
There are few books out there available on how to invite a friend to start a Bible reading prayerful relationship, for the purposes of building one another up to Christian maturity, and few of us are actually doing it. Yet, that's the privilege and responsibility that Jesus has entrusted to us, when he tells us to """"Go, make disciples of all nations. . . and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you"""". I found this little book accessible, biblical and practical; it gave me more confidence to reach out to friends to begin Bible-and-prayer-oriented relationships, and understand better how they should work.

Useful and Encouraging
This book has one-to-one and discipleship in its name but it makes it clear that the goal of meeting one-to-one is to help people grow as disciples (that is, followers) of Jesus. One-to-one is a tool to help us, not an end in itself. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis book is both challenging and practical. The ideas are supported from the Bible and illustrated with stories from the author's experience discipling women in Australia and Taiwan. There are also questions to help think through the different ideas. \\r\\n\\r\\nWhile a couple of chapters are spent on how to read the Bible together there are also chapters on how to teach different disciplines of the Christian life such as praying, evangelism, personal Bible study and other skills. There are also some very helpful chapters in how to identify and address some of the issues that prevent us from growing as Christians. \\r\\n\\r\\nI found that the author's cross-cultural perspective (evangelising and discipling in Taiwan) was very helpful for reflecting on how we help people grow and mature in our church setting. \\r\\n\\r\\nA few books have come out quite recently about one-to-one Bible reading but I strongly recommend this book, particularly if you have been meeting one-to-one for a while and it's feeling routine or aimless. This book will equip you, to better equip others, for a life of following and serving Jesus.

Useful for Everyone
This is a wonderfully straightforward and practical book designed to help each of us rise to the challenge of discipling others - a task that is too often left to church leaders, so called experts, and keenies only. It helps remove any """"fear factor"""" or sense of being too daunted to get involved in discipling others by providing clear guidelines on the """"how to"""" of discipleship. For example Christine offers advice on how to encourage someone in prayer and personal Bible Study, on where and when and even who to disciple, leaving the reader with no excuses about being unsure of what to do to disciple another person. \\r\\nThis book helpfully reminds us that as Christians we all have a responsibility to disciple others, to take the opportunities that God provides, and not to shy from the task for fear of not being good enough. Christine encourages her readers to have confidence as we disciple others because God's word and His Spirit are powerful and can change lives. \\r\\nAnd of course as we get involved in discipleship so we find our own faith stretched, challenged and deepened. \\r\\nThis book is Biblical, easy to read, extremely practical, and has useful questions for reflection at the end of each chapter. A great read - enough to get your teeth into if you've been involved in discipling others already, but not overwhelming if you're thinking of taking up the challenge of discipling others and need some help. I strongly recommend it- well worth the few hours it…
