Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society's shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She's determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents-or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance...

But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage-alone and after dark-the ensuing gossip may force them together. Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress's husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall's coach "accident" was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged. Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career-and his life.

    Jane Austin meets Christian Literature

Melanie Dickerson is an amazing writer and I devour everything she writes- this book is no exception. I love the way we have a touch of the Beauty and the Beast in this tale. We have two very unlikely people - Leorah Langdon, who though very beautiful, shuns society's rules and says what she thinks, even if it may be a little outlandish. And then there's Lord Edward Withinghall, who plagued with the scandal surrounding his father's death in a duel, follows society's rules to the letter, dresses plain and boring, and is usually wearing a scowl, or at least it seems, whenever he comes face to face with Leorah. \\nIn the opening scenes of this book we see Leorah conversing with her friend Felicity about Lord Withinghall and how she had incited his ire twice and he had called her a """"reckless"""" and a """"hoyden"""", and how with his unlikely eyebrows, Withinghall resembles a pirate. Unknown to the two ladies, Lord Withinghall was right behind them awaiting an introduction to his respected friend's, Nicholas Langdon's, sister. \\n\\nThis book has so much sarcastic humour and banter, it's sure to keep you engaged for hours, and it also drives home the point that we must strive for what God wants in our lives and not care for all the silly human rules.

    Good read.

Overall, this was a really good book. It had a lot of funny moments, as well as sweet and slightly scary moments. \\nI have found with this series, that you know (Or at least suspect) who the 'bad guy' is pretty much right from the start, which makes it a lot less suspenseful (terrifying). \\nI was surprised to find that, although the characters from the previous book appear often, you can easily read this book as a standalone novel. If you chose to read it before """"A spy's devotion"""", it wouldn't spoil anything from the first book either. \\nIt was well written and very easy to read. Would highly recommend this book to any lovers of romance.

    Brilliant Read

Melanie Dickerson is my new favourite author!! This book is exceptionally well written. The plot is believable and suspenseful all the way through. In terms of Regency era novels, this has to be the best by far. I am really looking forward to reading more in this series.

Romance with wit, faith and regency charm

I just finished reading this book. I loved it! The wity debates between Miss Leorah Langdon and Viscount Withingham were so entertaining. The mystery behind the attacks kept the reader wondering what would happen next. The beautiful friendship between Leorah and Felicity was endearing. The mentions of historical social justice changes such as education for the children of the poor including girls made the read very interesting. The characters were easy to imagine and overall the book was very well written. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to all romance fans.
