It's not easy being the bishop's daughter, especially for Lydie Stoltzfus. She's not like other Amish girls, as much as she wishes she were. The only thing she does well is disappoint others. Leaving her family and church seems unbearable, but staying might be worse.

Knowing Lydie is "between" jobs, the local doctor asks her to fill in at the front desk for a few months. To Lydie, this is a boon. It gives her time to figure out how she's going to say goodbye to her neighbor, Nathan Yoder--the main reason she needs to leave Stoney Ridge. Nathan claims he's in love with her, but she knows she's not good enough for him. If in doubt, Nathan's father reminds her frequently.

As Dok spends time with Lydie, she recognizes symptoms of a disorder rare among the Amish. She offers treatment for Lydie. But will it be enough to make her stay? Or has help come too late?

Bestselling and award-winning author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to Stoney Ridge, a small town that feels like an old friend.

    Not your standard Amish romance

Well, that was Amish romance with a difference. Sure, the characters were Amish, but the Amish lifestyle, rules and ways of doing things weren't the main focus. And, sure, it was a romance, but there was so much more to it than that. It was a delight to read, interesting, informative and different. It was fascinating to get an inside view of life through the eyes of someone with ADHD, and to learn that even the Amish don't automatically practice organic farming- that's something I never really though of, but just assumed that doing everything 'the old-fashioned way' would automatically mean not using harmful chemicals. The interactions between the main characters was at times volatile, but always changing and developing to maturity. A most enjoyable read.

An Amish novel about ADHD an so much more

This Amish novel follows a struggling young women and her family relations. There is a romance but it is not the main plot line. I liked the interwoven characters and the different lessons each of them learn. A refreshing take on ADHD. Organic farming vs chemicals and GMO was another plot line. Humility and truthfulness where also touched on.
