    Must Read for pastors

Brothers, We Are Not Professionals by Pastor John Piper is a 286 pages long 'plea' to Pastors for radical ministry. As is often the case with Piper's books, this book has floods of wisdom trapped in it. \\r\\n\\r\\nIts general argument is that the professionalization of the pastoral ministry is ruthlessly enslaving modern pastors. However, a 'professional' ministry is not our calling. Christ bids us to an 'unprofessional' ministry. He has called us to be heralds, prophets and his slaves. In other words, As Piper puts it, 'Professionalism has nothing to do with the essence and heart of the Christian ministry'. So, If we seek to be more 'professional', we will end up being spiritually dead. In short, Piper's message is, Pastors, we are not professionals. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis is the clear aim of the book. One of the strengths of this book is its pithiness. There are 30 chapters and each chapter is roughly 8-15 pages long. That means, if you are super busy, you could resolve to read only a chapter a day and still by the end of the month, you'd have finished the whole book. Also, you won't regret reading it slowly because each chapter is deliciously packed with the sweet word of God. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis review first appeared on my blog (www.thereadingrevd.***)

Must Read for Anyone in Pastoral Ministry

Piper reflects on his many years of pastoral ministry with exhortations for the next generation. One of the strengths of the book is it is reflections and exhortations from an experienced pastor. These are opinions and advice from decades of consideration and life experience. \\r\\n\\r\\nEach chapter is short and can easily be read daily as a devotional challenge or encouragement. The chapters are succinct and very readable. As Piper is well known for in his ministry, the biblical passages are included heavily throughout each chapter. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe opening topics are classic Piper writing, but as he continues a wide variety of topics and issues are addressed. These include his reflections on: various doctrines and theology, legalism, family, ethical issues, baptism, preaching style and method, original biblical languages, physical health, and so much more. \\r\\n\\r\\nHighly recommended reading for any person in vocational ministry or considering that future. \\r\\n
