    Stark and Compelling

Here's praying that we don't require another wakeup call like that experienced in those four years.

    Enjoyable Reading

This is my first experience of reading any of Lynn Austin's work. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Candle in the Darkness' and the 'Refiner's Fire Series' as a whole! It gives good incite into the American Civil war, and gives wonderful examples on how people are to lean on God. Well worth the read!

    Brilliant read

Loved this book and the whole series! Lynn Austin is a great writer and this series was just fascinating. It was a great insight into the Civil War and a really interesting probe into slavery from the viewpoint of somebody brought up with slavery as good and accepted. Highly recommended!

    War between the states

If you like Lynn Austin, you have to read this one. I could hardly put it down. This novel offers a brilliant perspective into the American civil war, but beyond that, a black slave named Eli offers such radical truths as he speaks of his trust and faith in his """"massa Jesus"""". Loved it!
