Walking in joy often feels crazy and like a denial of actual life. Yet Christians are called to "be joyful always" (1 Thess. 5:16). What does this mean, and how is it even possible?
In her new book, Stasi Eldredge meets readers in their painful realities and offers an invitation to a joy that is defiant in the face of this broken world. This joy does not Pollyannaish-ly ignore life's heartache; rather, it insists that sorrow and loss do not have the final say. This kind of joy is present to both goodness and grief and interprets them in the light of heaven. With deep vulnerability about her own chronic pain, surprising diagnoses, and relational struggles and loss, Stasi demonstrates how to maintain a posture of holy defiance that neither denies nor diminishes the pain, but instead leans fully into the experience of knowing God's presence and promise in the middle of whatever life may bring.

After reading some of Stasi's other books I picked this one up and was excited for more truth and wisdom- I wasn't disappointed. I laughed and cried and related to so much of the authentic truth that is poured into these pages. Relevant for all people in any season of life.

So powerful
Joy is not the same thing as happiness. Happiness, as Stasi says in this powerful book, is a roller coaster with sudden rises and falls that leave you gasping for air and wondering what happened. Joy, on the other hand, is steady, strong, and something that is God-given not circumstance-driven. I so appreciate this book coming from a woman who has experienced so much loss, struggle, and pain in life and who continues to rise above it in faith and with a powerful joy that cannot be taken away from her. It has spoken so deeply to me. I highly, highly recommend it!!
